The Cobra Strikes! : Chuck Hebing Wins His First URC Feature for Clubs Debut To Clinton County

The Cobra Strikes! : Chuck Hebing Wins His First URC Feature for Clubs Debut To Clinton County

For the first time in the 31 year history of Clinton County Speedway the United Racing Club made its first trip to the 1/3 mile oval outside of Mill Hall,PA. On a night of firsts it was Ontario New York's "The Cobra '' Chuck Hebing scoring his first URC win on Friday night.

“Ryan Smith called me the old man out there and I should retire, I thought about retiring after I win to go out on top.” Hebing Said. “ To be able to be Ryan and guys that race a whole lot more than I do now days and to get my first URC win it’s a pretty good deal.”

The race started out with Hebing and Weller on the front row as Weller pulled away and Ryan Smith moved into the 2nd spot as Hebing fell back to 4th . Ryan Stillwaggon would bring out the first caution of the night with front end issues early in the race. Weller would use the high side on the restarts to pull away from the field.

“ On the original start, Josh Weller beat me real bad and I just spun the tires on the bottom. Hebing stated. “ That got me back to 3rd. When Ryan gave me the top , I could keep my momentum up.”

But after the next few yellows Weller could not hold off the charge from Ryan Smith. Just around the halfway point Smith would get around Weller for the lead. Weller would fade behind Hebing and 9th starting Jason Shultz to settle for 4th .

“ Oh she got slippery out there” Smith said post race. “All and all good race. This place is fun to race at. This is more Chuck's style. This New York Slick. But second sucks. Third is worst though.”

Ryan Smith would hold on to the lead until a restart with 8 laps to go when Hebing would make his way around Smith with a slider off of turn 4 with 6 laps to go and never look back.

“ All they said on the radio was to make sure Ryan fires first when I was on the top, “ Hebing said about the last restart. “ I saw him fire and I had just a little extra traction coming out of three. Just had enough momentum to run to the top just like we do Woodhull.”

“ This thing wouldn't take off. “ Smith noted on the final restart “ It would gurgle real bad. There was no grip coming out of 4 in the middle. I had something to get a hold of. If I would have moved to the top on those restarts. I probably would have ran third or fourth.”

“ Just got to get my guy Smiley here to sippen the tire a little deeper next time we’re here. Its always the tire guy's fault. Never the driver.” Smith said jokingly

During that battle Jason Shultz would make his way into the 3rd spot fighting for the lead. Weller would finish 4th and Johnny Smith rounded out the top 5. “ Track was pretty good tonight.” Said Shultz. “ It was slick, something we got to work on. Track was in good shape and no dust. A Good night to learn somethings. We were expecting dusty, slick and one lane. But they surprised us with a fantastic track tonight.”

United Racing Club is back in action tonight , July 9th at The Selinsgrove Speedway for the 360 National Open. This is a non-points event . The next Points event is Saturday July 16th at the Grandview Speedway.
