Mr. Twister Mark Bitner drove his #15 Bitner Automotive wingless sprint car to victory lane on Friday night at Big Diamond Speedway. This was the first time the Capitol Renegade United Racing Club hosted a wingless race since 1996 at the Grandview Speedway.
With 15 cars signed into the pit area, two heats were needed to determine the starting lineup for the 25 lap $2,000 to win main event. Bitner started 6th in heat race #2 and with a daring move going into turn 1, slide his way from 6th to 2nd just behind the 21 of New York native Carmen Perigo. Bitner chased Perigo for the 8 laps but just couldn’t overtake the top spot.
On the A-Main draw, Bitner drew the #3 pill and used some pit talk knowledge to his advantage for the start of the feature. During the downtime in the pits, racers often talk, and it was there that Bitner knew Pergio’s 360 sprint car just didn’t have the jump he was looking for. Bitner charged into 2nd place on the start and then on lap two slide past front runner Kevin Darling for the top position.
Bitner would go uncontested for the remaining 23 laps cruising to his 1st win of 2017 worth a cool $2,000. Look for Mark and the #15 team to put the wing back on the car and head to Delaware International Speedway next Saturday May 6th for the Capitol Renegade Untied Racing Club event.
Bitner knows that none of this would be possible without the help of his crew and his sponsors. Bitner would like to thank Bitner Automotive, Fall Proof Systems Inc., John Benko, Stida Insurance, Keizer Wheels, Simpson, Total Seal Piston Rings, Wilwood Brakes, Mach 1 Chassis, 717 Innovations and Capital K9 for all of their support.
