APRIL 7, 2019 – 2018 was a big year for Troy Betts and it had nothing to do with what happened on the track.
He and his wife Chelsie became first-time parents, welcoming their daughter Addison to the world.
So understandably, little Addison stole the show.
“2018 was a year I’ll never forget,” Betts said. “Most of my focus went into Addison.”
Only making seven Capitol Renegade United Racing Club features in 2018, Betts still finished the season sixth in points.
“When we were at the track I felt like we had a car to beat every night,” the Delaware native said. “Our only DNF came at the last race of the year due to ignition problems. We rarely were out of the top 10. Could things go better? Of course they could, but it’s racing – some nights you have it and sometimes you miss it. It’s just part of racing.”
Betts plans to run as many URC races as he can in 2019 and will also run select shows at Selinsgrove Speedway on URC off weeks. Mid-summer, he hopes to return south to run with USCS and will also try to make a few USAC shows with his midget if his schedule allows.
Like most, he’s keeping his 2019 goals simple:
“The goal is always to win,” Betts said. “Ask anyone who races and that’s always the goal. Consistency is the goal. If we’re consistent and running up front the finishes and wins will come. We’ve been close a lot of times so it would be great to finally get that done.”
Eager to get the season underway, Betts said he’s looking forward to returning to Grandview Speedway when URC races there on July 20.
Betts thanks the following sponsors for their support:
Betts Garage, B&G Truck and Trailer, B&G Auto Body, First State Crane, Phillips Garage and Simpson Racing Products. New to the team this year is Diamond State Recycling Corp. “Really excited to have these guys on board and seeing where we can grow together.”
