BEDFORD, PA – Jason Shultz of Carlisle, PA cruised to his first victory of 2019 with the Capitol Renegade United Racing Club on Friday, June 28, 2019 at Bedford Speedway.
Shultz began his night from the pole with Jordan Thomas to his outside to lead the field to the green. Thomas proved he could hang with Shultz as the 10 car field rocketed around the 5/8-mile oval, but could not make the pass. The only caution of the night would come at lap 23 when URC point leader experienced some mechanical issue that would result in him retiring the number 35 machine to the pits. After a 3 lap shootout, Jason Shultz parked his 29 machine in victory lane followed by Thomas, Josh Weller, Justin Barger, and Derek Locke rounding out the top five.
Shultz said it “feels pretty good to finally win one” when speaking about his first URC win of 2019. As for what this win does for the rest of his URC season, he said he is taking things “just race by race, today’s a new day”. Jason would like to thank his sponsors, Weis Markets, Horst Craft, Weather Proof Roofing, Hoover’s produce, Mill works, and the Lauver brother’s for their contributions leading him to victory lane.
The KSE Hard Charger award this week went to Curt Michael, who missed his heat race due to a decision to change out the rear after hot laps. Michael started tenth and worked his way up to a sixth place finish.
The next race for the Capitol Renegade URC will be July 3 where they will join the 410 sprint cars at Port Royal for the 6th show of the 2019 Pennsylvania Speedweek. The championship battle is heating up as the mishap for Chad Layton this week allowed second place Josh Weller to close the gap on the leader to only 61 points.
