URC to honor first Living Legend, Glenn Fitzcharles at Grandview Speedway

URC to honor first Living Legend, Glenn Fitzcharles at Grandview Speedway

BECHTELSVILLE, PA - The Capitol Renegade United Racing Club will return to Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania Saturday July 20th for the first time since 2014 where Curt Michael was victorious. Grandview Speedway has deep roots within URC’s history, as they are currently ranked 4th among most visits by the series at 92 starts. The series’ current stars will honor the past as we pay tribute to our “Living Legend” and National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Glenn Fitzcharles. Fitzcharles's accomplishments in URC are second to none with 5 championship seasons and 81 victories – the most of any driver.

Fitzcharles experienced success early with URC, recording his first win during his first ever start with the series in 1976 at Flemington Speedway after starting the race from the last row. However, it wasn’t until 1986 that the driver from Pottstown became a regular with the series, picking up the first of four consecutive championships in 1987. Glenn will return to Grandview Speedway where he made his final URC start in 1999, as the series’ drivers, fans, friends, and alumni will honor a true champion as URC’s first “Living Legend”.

Joining Glenn Fitzcharles at Grandview will be many other former URC stars. These driver’s will be available to sign autographs and catch up with old friends and fans. Past champions Sean Michael, Dave McGough, Greg Coverdale, Mike Haggenbottom, and Gary Gollub are all confirmed to be in attendance. Fan favorites Becca Anderson, Charlie Massey, Fran Hogue, Mares Stellfox, Trevor Lewis also plan on attending.

A meet and greet/autograph session will take place at 5pm in conjunction with the crew from Low Down and Dirty.

Current attendees include: Charlie Massey, Greg Coverdale, Fred Kennedy, Gus Matteo, Trevor Lewis, Bob Swavely, Glenn Clark, Bev and Bruce Thompson, Bill Turpin, Fran Hogue, Pete Green, John Kepics, Scott Pursell, Wayne Rice, Ed Wylie, Kevin Welsh, Vince Gangemi, Henry Fennimore, Lou Echrich, Jimmy Martin, Judy Bates, Gary Gollub, Tim Higgins, Randy West, Glenn Fitzcharles, Dave McGough

This list is likely to grow as the week goes on however, the Capitol Renegade United Racing Club would like to extend an open invitation to all past drivers, owners, and officials to come join the festivities. As the years pass it becomes extremely difficult to track everyone down; we hope you understand and contact us with any questions. We look forward to a great night celebrating URC’s prestigious history!
